Work permit holders
You may not need a study permit.
Under a temporary IRCC public policy, in effect until December 31, 2027, a foreign worker with a valid work permit may be eligible to study a program of 6 months or less without a separate study permit. Ask us which PSW programs fit within that length.
Check before you enrol: your work permit must stay valid until the program ends. A placement may require a new work permit if you hold an employer-specific permit; open work permit holders generally do not need one. Work experience gained during full-time study under this policy does not count toward Canadian Experience Class or Express Entry points. Do I need a study permit if I am on a work permit?

How long is a PSW course in Ontario?
It depends on the provider and the schedule you choose. Full-time, part-time, evening and weekend options run on different timelines, and clinical placement hours sit alongside classroom and lab time. How much does a PSW course cost?
Tuition differs by provider, and the advertised price often leaves out books, uniforms, screening and exam costs. We list the full cost of each option before you apply — no hidden charges, and the NACC exam fee is included.
Can I take a PSW course online?
Not fully. Ontario PSW programs include hands-on lab practice and a supervised clinical placement. Some providers teach theory in a hybrid format; we confirm which parts are in person and that clinical placement is inside the GTA.
Can I study PSW on a work permit or PGWP?
Many of our students hold an open work permit, PGWP or spousal open work permit and study part-time, evenings or weekends. Your permit conditions decide what you can do, so check them first; we then match you to programs whose schedule fits your work hours.
Does The Admission Council teach the PSW program?
No. TAC provides independent education counselling and application support. The selected institution delivers the training and issues the credential.
