A short conversation with an admissions representative is useful, but it should not replace your own verification. Work through these questions and compare the answers across providers.
Institution and credential
- What is the institution’s full legal name?
- What is the exact approved name of this PSW program?
- Who issues the credential, and what wording appears on it?
- Where can I independently verify the institution and program status?
- Is this campus and delivery location included in the approval?
Curriculum and attendance
- Can I review the current course outline and weekly schedule?
- Which classes and practical activities are in person?
- What attendance level is required?
- How are practical competencies assessed?
- What happens if I miss a laboratory, assessment, or placement shift?
Placement and screening
- How many placement hours are required?
- Who secures the placement?
- How far may I need to travel?
- Can placement occur during evenings or weekends?
- Which screening, health, immunization, first-aid, or equipment documents are required?
- When should I begin the Vulnerable Sector Screening process?
- What happens if I cannot meet a placement requirement?
Ontario’s career-college PSW policy specifically warns students about Vulnerable Sector Screening before practicum. Ask about timing before the program starts.
Admission and student support
- Which academic or language prerequisites apply to me?
- Will the institution assess my documents before I sign?
- Is tutoring or academic support available?
- What accessibility services are available?
- Who handles student complaints and academic appeals?
Fees, refunds, and schedule changes
- What is the total tuition?
- Which additional costs should I budget for?
- Which fees are non-refundable?
- Can the class schedule, start date, or delivery method change?
- What are the withdrawal and refund rules?
- Can I take the contract home and review it before signing?
After completion
- Which employment settings does the curriculum prepare students to understand?
- What career-development support is actually included?
- Does the institution publish verified completion or graduate information?
- Are any claims about employment written into the institution’s official materials?
Training does not guarantee a job. Employer requirements can differ by setting, and program information can change. Use official sources and keep copies of what was represented when you enrolled.
